Home-made Sandwiches Delivered to Your Door

Our Cave Cafe has been up and running for a couple of years now and our new Cafe Manager has given the the place a brand new lease of life.

The vision of the cafe is to provide a place of safety and refuge where at-risk women and young people can just come and be. This is somewhere where people can have a meal, a chat and hang out with friends. Every Wednesday afternoon there is a hot meal provided for £2 such as curry and rice or shepherds pie.

The Cave is also a venue for group activities such as our annual Christmas meals, Thursday late-night drop-in and youth groups.

But the Cave Cafe isn't just for those who access our services. It's open to anyone and everyone who'd like to drop by for a home-made baguette, a slice of freshly baked brownie or a nice warming drink. We also have a sandwich delivery service that visits local businesses with our tasty produce.

Are you interested? Give us a call on 01642 655071 to arrange a delivery.

Why wouldn't you want to leap off a bridge for charity?!

The Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough is a local landmark, made famous by Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, The Fast Show and of course, Billy Elliot. It was only a matter of time before the fundraising team at A Way Out decided it would be a good idea to give people the opportunity to dangle below it from a length of elastic tied round their ankles. Who wouldn't be game?

All our planning came together last Sunday afternoon when Sarah Jane, our Community Fundraiser brought together a team of twenty odd mad fundraisers to take the plunge.

Everyone who came jumped or abseiled and by all accounts it was a really fun, adrenalin filled day! Participants also got a free t-shirt and were greeted with hot chocolate as they came back down.

Here are a few of the pics...

If you think this looks like fun then you can sign up now for our next day of bungee jumps and abseils, same time, same place, Sunday 15th July. Full details are now available on our website and you can download booking forms there or telephone 01642 655071 for more information.

We'll see you at the next one!

Calling All Consumers of Tea and Cake, Total Warriors and Fashionistas!

We've been working on our events plan this week and we have so many exciting things to get involved in. It's a busy year and it all kicks off with our Transporter Bridge Bungee Jump and Abseil this Sunday and we can't wait! (We'll be posting pictures/ videos next week.)

But if you haven't got involved this time then there are still plenty of events coming up.

After much anticipation Rags and Muffins is coming to Durham! We've been busy collecting clothes and we're selling them all off for anything from £2 to £15. Come and check it out, but we recommend arriving early to grab the best bargains!
Afternoon Tea at Crathorne Hall. We are hosting a beautiful Afternoon Tea at Crathorne Hall. There will also be a flower arranging demonstration and stalls selling gifts and homemade goodies, perfect for a Mother's Day or birthday present! This is a fantastic opportunity to make some new friends and to hear a bit more about A Way Out and the work we are involved in. We're hoping to have more of these events throughout the year that provide an opportunity to make new friends, learn about local projects and businesses and of course enjoy good food!
Total Warrior is back and sign up has begun! We already have seven people on board and ready to start training so we've nearly doubled last year's team! This is not for the faint-hearted but with five months to go you have plenty of time to get ready for the challenge.
To find out more about what you may be letting yourself in for have a look at the Total warrior website here. If you consider yourself a thrill-seeker then this is almost certainly the event for you!

If you are interested in any of these events or want to know about other opportunities to support A Way Out, then visit our website.

For Those Who Like Figures!

Yesterday I was reading our Annual Report 2011 from last October and I was overwhelmed again by some of the amazing work that is being carried out in Teesside by A Way Out. I have worked at this inspiring place for ten months now but I am regularly astounded by stories and projects that I hear about. For example the amazing Heart To Change project that invests so much time and support into young women who are really committed to turning their lives around.

These are some of the statistics which illustrate what was achieved last year. Although this information is a few months old, since October we have only gone on to expand our work to reach more people and make more significant changes in lives so we're confident that these figures will only be more encouraging this time next year.

We hope that this is inspiring to you too! For other news stories from A Way Out visit http://www.awayout.co.uk/whats-new/
